Memories on DVD
Hull Fair is the greatest travelling fair in the country. The Hull Fair Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has brought together memories and images from the citizens of Hull and the travelling Showpeople. Between January 2004 and July 2005 over 60 interviews were conducted and more than 600 images were recorded forming a remarkable snapshot of the relationship between the city and the fair over the course of the 20th Century.
The resulting DVD presents over two hours of interviews, illustrated with images from the Hull Fair Project collection and the National Fairground Archive. The DVD also showcases fifteen minutes of moving footage of the fair from the early 1900s to the 1990s. By its very nature thew voice of the storytellers dictated the Project and so the content of the DVD is designed to reflect the voice of Hull and the Showpeople.
At present the DVD is available to view in Hull City Council local libraries. Members of the public wishing to make a purchase of the DVD can register their interest by emailing fairground@sheffield.ac.uk
